"I don't really go into places telling them all about my name," says the beautiful brunette. "In fact I try not to say that as much as possible and let people find out on their own."

Truth be told, Alexis would rather be known for something else.

"At the end of the day I want to be known for my ability to drive a car, for my skills, and then be like: Oh yeah, you know what?" she says with a laugh.

The "Oh yeah, you know what?" part is her dad: John Paul DeJoria, the co-founder of Paul Mitchell Products.  Alexis has worked in the family business, but unlike the rest of her siblings decided to leave and take a more dangerous road.

"I was always the thrill seeker, kind of the wild child in the family," say explains the NHRA funny car driver.  "So racing's not that far out of the box for me, but still it took some time for my family to be okay with what I do."

Her family has accepted her love of racing and with a couple wins under her belt, Alexis enjoys proving girls can go fast too.

"I've had a couple of times where people are like, 'Oh wait, YOU drive that car?'  Because you really can't tell once you have your helmet and your suit on," she explains as she holds her fingers in a square around her eyes imitating the view from a helmet.   "You have no shape pretty much and that's all you get to see."

Alexis will be racing in the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals July 20-22 at Bandimere Speedway.  For more information visit Bandimere.com

Alexis and her funy car will be holding a meet and greet with fans on Wednesday, July 18 at the Rock Rest Lodge in Golden from 4 to 7 p.m.
