The allegation was made Monday on the first day of a court-martial for Sgt. Vincinte Jackson. He's charged with murder and premeditated murder in the death of Spc. Brandy Fonteneaux (Fon-tah-NO') of Houston.
She was found dead at Fort Carson on Jan. 8. The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports Jackson's lawyer read from a suicide note Jackson wrote after Fonteneaux's death.
In the note, Jackson said he had no intention of killing Fonteneaux and apologizes. He wrote that an antidepressant medication and alcohol "made me go deeper and deeper into a hole."
The court-martial continues Tuesday.
