The fire off North County Road 60 sent a thick column of smoke into the skies north of La Porte and US Highway 287. A small storage shed owned by Gary Kloberdanz of Greeley was scorched by the fire, but no homes were immediately threatened.
"I had a little fire and the wind came up. All of a sudden I had a runner and it got away from me," Kloberdanz said.
Firefighters from several agencies responded to the blaze, led by Poudre Fire Authority.
Kloberdanz said he had been clearing brush from the property for several months, and noted the fire had done a lot of the work for him.
"Thank the Lord there's no homes that can be harmed," he said.
An exact size of the fire was unavailable Saturday afternoon.
