The Aurora Fire Department responded to the fire, at 3501 S. Uravan Street started just after 3 p.m. Saturday. They had the quarter acre fire under control in about 30 minutes, but firefighters are concerned because of the dry conditions.
"It's not common, however this year we have so little snow and the vegetation moisture is so low it's similar to midsummer conditions," Capt. Allen Robnett with the Aurora Fire Department said.
Robnett says neighbors called 911 after they saw smoke in the brush. When firefighters arrived, the small fire was on both sides of the creek that runs behind the park.
A total of two engines and a small brush truck were on the scene in a matter of minutes.
Several children were seen in the area just before the fire was reported. The cause is still undetermined.
