KIOWA, Colo. (AP) - High absenteeism and a confirmed case of whooping cough has closed Elbert School District 200 schools for most of the week.

The district has only about 200 students in one building serving grades K-12.

According to the Denver Post, more than 80 students were reported absent on Tuesday, and more than a dozen went home with fevers.

Six substitute teachers had to be called in and officials decided to send everyone home.
