DENVER - An unusual rescue took place Saturday night after an elevator suddenly got stuck with 9 people inside.

It happened just before 7 p.m. inside the Tabor Center in downtown Denver. Firefighters say the elevator was going down and stopped between the main floor and the parking garage.

Ty Tartler was inside the elevator. He says they used the emergency phone to call for help, and within minutes rescuers arrived.

Members of Denver's trench rescue team used a rope and pulley system to lift each person out of the elevator.

"It was alright. It was just like walking. They pull you right out. It was no big deal," Tartler said. "These guys talked to us the whole time. They kept us calm we were good."

Rescuers say they train for this type of rescue all the time, but rarely have to do it.
