KUSA - He was known for his amazingly accurate long-yardage field goals, but now Jason Elam is scoring with readers.

The former Denver Broncos kicker and co-author Steve Yohn have just published the second book in their "Riley Covington Thriller" series and Tyndale House Publishers have already signed with the duo for two more books. This following the success of their first book, "Monday Night Jihad," which was on the Denver Post bestseller list after its release in Jan. 2008.

The series combines action/adventure, terrorism and a little bit of romance, with something Elam knows a lot about-football.

"I had these wacky stories from my time on the Broncos, whether it was on a team flight or in a locker room that people thought were funny," Elam said.

The new book, "Blown Coverage," focuses on a Colorado linebacker who joins the fight against terrorism once it strikes his own field. As you might imagine, Elam wasn't an expert on terrorism, but he always knew who to call.

"The thing about Jason is that he's met so many people over the years that anytime we were trying to come up with a new technical thing or some new scenario his catch line was 'I've got a buddy...," Yohn said.

Elam says he misses Denver.

"There's something special about Denver. I miss it here," he said.

"It was really weird for me to be in Atlanta," Elam continued. "It was weird putting on a black and red uniform, instead of blue and orange."

After living in Denver for 15 years, moving to Georgia was a homecoming.

"I'm living down the road from where I grew up. It's nice to go back to family," he said.

Elam says he had no hard feelings about being released from the Broncos last season, but told 9NEWS he was shocked when the team fired head coach Mike Shanahan.

"I was very surprised. I figured Mike would be here as long as he wanted to be here. It's a tough business. If he wants to continue coaching, I don't think he'll have any trouble finding a job," Elam said.
