DENVER - Not all businesses are struggling in this economy. In fact, a local company 9NEWS has followed for a few years is expanding.
Started in one of the founder's basements, Denver-based 10 til 2 has seen significant growth over the last few years, moving twice and expanding to 11 states with 20 offices. The part-time placement service currently has about 20,000 people in their database, which spans across the country, and they are looking to add more people. They specialize in placing part-time workers in jobs requiring 30 hours or less a week.
Jill Ater is one of the company's founders and she attributes the continued success to their business model which works well for a lot of different businesses.
"We have an incredible database of college educated professionals that are looking for work only 30 hours or less and what that allows is for a business to be able to find an employee to use only during they hours that they need them... it allows them the flexibility to have a good employee at a good rate," Ater said.
Given the state of the economy, Ater says a lot of businesses are looking for unique options to fill their staffing needs without having to make a huge commitment.
"Businesses are a little cautious right now and with reason. They don't know exactly what's going to happen so they're concerned about putting money into their personnel. We're kind of an option in between because it's not the commitment of a full time employee but you still have a strong professional working for you," Ater explained.
On finding a job in the rocky job market Ater says selling yourself is the most important thing to do.
"There's a lot of people looking for work so rather than just going out and saying, 'Hi. Here I am. Do you want me?' You have to really sell yourself. So, that includes having your resume absolutely perfect, being able to show that your skills are there and what value you'd be able to give to the employer," she explained.
