Help for homeowners in danger of losing their homes

AURORA - Between January and August, more than 4,500 homeowners in Aurora filed for foreclosure. But there is help for anyone on the brink of losing their home, and much of it is free.

The Aurora Association of Realtors is holding a free event on Saturday at Rangeview High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal is to give people an opportunity to meet one on one with the lenders who have provided their mortgage. There are also workshop sessions on how to manage funds.

People will have the opportunity to enter their paperwork into the bankers' systems. They need to bring current paystubs from the last 30 days; their 2007 and 2008 tax returns; three months worth of bank statements; a household expense budget; a copy of their closing documents; and their most recent property insurance and mortgage statement.

Housing councilors will also be at the event.
