BOULDER COUNTY - Our nice Thanksgiving weather is giving late fall hikers some new reasons to explore local open space. Pella Crossing is one option, located next to the historic Boulder County farming community of Hygiene.

Pella Crossing is an easy, 2.1 mile loop that winds around some picturesque fishing ponds. Along the way, you can spot water birds, pastures and barns. If possible, try to time your visit towards the end of the day, so you can enjoy the reflected colors of a November sunset.

Hygiene itself is worth exploring, especially the town's country church and brick steeple.

To get there, take US 36 north from Boulder for 5.7 miles. turn right on Nelson Road, proceed 5.9 miles and turn left on North 75th Street. Look for the Pella Crossing Open Space sign on the right.
