|
KUSA - While we've all heard loads of talk about aging baby boomers, the nation also has a pet boomer generation that is quickly approaching their golden years. ![]() In fact, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are about 45 million dogs and cats that are currently seven years or older - placing them squarely alongside of their graying human boomer counterparts. Unfortunately the majority of these Pet Boomers are slipping into their golden years without their owners recognizing the signs and symptoms and the potential health problems that may be prevented. According to Marty Becker, DVM, one of the nations leading authorities on pet health, early detection of ailments and proactive health maintenance can extend a pets life by years, giving pets and their owners more quality time together. Dr. Becker, author of the nationally-syndicated column Pet Connection, believes that its very easy for pet owners to diagnosis and treat some of the early signs of aging of their pets. In an effort to help pet owners, Becker is promoting a new not-for-profit resource guide that helps owners care for their pets at all ages and stages of their lives. The Merck/Merial Manual for Pet Health is the first comprehensive guide to home health care for pets is available at book retailers and online at www.petboomers.com.
