"I arrived here, oh probably almost an hour and a half ago, and there was a big long line and we were all standing out in the cold freezing," Deborah Garcia Sandoval, a Thornton resident, said.

The lines in front of the new DMV office in Thornton are a result of a fire marshal's decision to limit occupancy in the office to 49 people. The limitations are a result of the design of the new office space and the close proximity of the entrance and exit doors.

Currently, individuals are lined up on the sidewalk in front of the new DMV office and left to wait their turn. When one person finishes their business inside the office and departs, another person is allowed to enter.

A spokesman for the DMV says the new facility is larger than the old Northglenn office on Malley Drive. He says the landlord of the new facility was not aware of the occupancy limitations. The DMV is currently working on an interim solution with the landlord and is working to use vacant space adjacent to the new office. They are also trying to find a permanent solution by installing another door.
