Chief Dan Oates wrote in an email that he interviewed for the vacant chief of police job Wednesday in San Jose, but he's not leaving Aurora anytime soon.

"I will not be going to San Jose," Oates wrote in an email. "I will remain here as chief and look forward to continuing to work with all of you."

Oates was given a standing ovation during Governor Hickenlooper's State of the State address Thursday morning for his leadership during the Aurora theater shooting in July.
