KUSA - Now that we're starting to move past another blast of February snow and cold, it may time to get back outside. And if you've never been to Barr Lake State Park northeast of Denver, you're missing out, especially if you go, at sunset.
Barr Lake State Park is just northeast of downtown Denver, in Brighton. The park is home to over 350 migratory and resident birds, most notably bald eagles who can be seen swooping and diving for food in Barr Lake's icy waters.
Several trails radiate out from the Barr Lake Nature Center; the Lake Perimeter Trail is the park's longest, an 8.9 mile multi-use loop that circles the lake and passes through the park's Wildlife Refuge. The Lake Perimeter Trail's level grades and groomed track are well suited for runners, families and winter recreation.
Make sure you take your camera. There are photo opportunities at just about every turn.
