KUSA - The man accused of driving drunk and hitting a Littleton police officer while he was on his motorcycle is out on a $50,000 bond after appearing in court Wednesday.
Jemal Dawed faces charges of vehicular homicide, driving while under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and failure to yield to the right of way. He won't be formally charged until the results of his blood tests are available.
Dawed will appear in court again on May 10 for a new bond hearing. Authorities are still unsure of his immigration status and may set his bond higher than the $50,000 it is right now. Formal charges are set to be filed on May 24.
The fatal crash happened Monday on East Belleview Avenue in Aurora. Littleton Police Officer Kevin Denner was driving west on Belleview Avenue when Dawed's vehicle going eastbound made a left turn to go north onto De Gaulle Street. Dawed's vehicle hit the front of the motorcycle and Denner hit the passenger side of the vehicle. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.
A funeral service for Denner is scheduled for May 10 at Mission Hills Church in Littleton.
