"This is the pinnacle event for all the college bike racers in America," says USA Cycling CEO Steve Johnson. "They take home the trophy and bragging rights for a year."

Sunday, the pelotons raced through a 0.9 mile course through downtown Fort Collins. Spectators got to see the bikers every three or four minutes as they circled the course.

"It's super fast, super hard and just a lot of dedication goes into it," says University of California Berkeley racer Zach Williams. "A lot of 20-plus hour weeks that these guys put in."

Colorado State University hosted the race and finished third in the Omnium, or overall score. Fort Lewis in Durango finished second, and the University of Colorado Boulder came in seventh in the Division 1 series.

Among Division 2 schools, Colorado School of Mines placed fourth, the University of Denver finished ninth and Colorado College biked well enough for tenth place.

Phillip Mann from CSU crossed the finish line first in the Division 1 men's race Sunday.
