ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The Denver Broncos named Cornerstone Christian Academy Head Coach Jamie Heiner as this week's NFL High School Coach of the Week. Heiner led his Class 1A Bulldogs of the Metro North League to a 17-14 victory Saturday night over Denver Christian. The game was decided with a Bulldog field goal as the time expired. Just one year ago, the Bulldogs, 3-3, were 1-8.

"Now, they understand," Heiner said of his players. "Our program could have collapsed a year ago; we have a lot of kids who hadn't played."

Heiner, 36, was born in St. Paul, Minn., and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 1994 and from the University of Northern Colorado in 1999 where he was a two-time All-North Central Conference linebacker, playing on two NCAA Division II national championship teams. He was an Academic All-American in addition to earning All-American status his senior year. Heiner owns Impact Sports Performance in Broomfield.

The Denver Broncos will recognize 10 High School Coach of the Week honorees during the regular season. Each weekly winner will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to be used in the school's football program. Additionally, during the Broncos' home game on January 1st, the NFL/Denver Broncos High School Coach of the Year will be named and presented with a $2,000 donation to the school's football program.
