It starts at Sports Authority Field at Mile High and participants begin by running a lap inside the stadium. In their skirts, women start first. Three minutes later, the chaser-wave follows.
"We were looking for a fun way to include more fun with your fitness so we wanted to come up with an innovative 5K format where women go first, then the men go three minutes later and then we throw a huge party after," Nicole DeBoom, founder of Skirt Sports in Boulder said.
The race has turned into a great way for singles to meet. While runners are participating in the 5K, the have the option of wearing a 'single' badge or sticker distinguishing them from those who are 'taken.'
In 2011, Kristin Starke Domenico and Kent Utley met at the Skirt Chaser and on Saturday they will celebrate their first anniversary.
"I just want to run and focus on that and then I decided to put [the singles sticker on] and then a few minutes later... Kent just came up and said 'Hey,'" Starke Domenico said.
The run is Saturday, June 23 beginning at 5 p.m. Registration $35 per person.
