"To be honest, I was stunned. I didn't see it coming," McCartney said Monday on ESPN 102.3 FM. "I'm still dealing with it. I think Embree is the real deal. I think flat out he has superstar potential as a coach.
"I know you don't file complaints without a good night's sleep. And I haven't had a good night's sleep. But my emotions are running strong right now. I need to step back ... take a few days to calm down. I need to talk to some people I trust to find out what they think. To truly evaluate what's happened – what recourse do we have at this time? Do we stand up and salute what's happened?
Or do we scatter?
"I have a real strong opinion about what this decision is going to do to the program. But I want to wait to unpack that."
