"To be honest, I was stunned. I didn't see it coming," McCartney said Monday on ESPN 102.3 FM. "I'm still dealing with it. I think Embree is the real deal. I think flat out he has superstar potential as a coach.
"I know you don't file complaints without a good night's sleep. And I haven't had a good night's sleep. But my emotions are running strong right now. I need to step back ... take a few days to calm down. I need to talk to some people I trust to find out what they think. To truly evaluate what's happened what recourse do we have at this time? Do we stand up and salute what's happened?
Or do we scatter?
"I have a real strong opinion about what this decision is going to do to the program. But I want to wait to unpack that."
