Creigh Kelley, running guru and event promoter, visited the 9News studios to present three easy tips to turning a New Year's Resolution into reality.

1. One step at a time.  The Colfax marathon is 19 weeks away.  Break down training week by week and find a plan either on the internet (there are many to be found, such Jeff Galloway for example) or by joining a local group such as Runner's Edge of the Rockies.

2. Keep your pace.  Don't worry about how fast or slow you run.  As you train, you can start to calculate a finish time goal.   The Colfax Marathon will have "pacers" on race day that run with signs indicating a finish time.  Run with that group and you'll hit your goal.

3. Don't do this alone.  Stay motivated by getting others involved: train with a group, find a charity partner you believe in, or if 26.2 miles is not your thing, start a relay team with friends or co-workers.

Registration is open for the Colfax Marathon right now.  If 26.2 miles seems daunting, start with their 1/2 marathon or Urban 10 miler.  With 7 races to choose from, there is a distance for everyone.  For more information, visit ColoradoColfaxMarathon.org
