DEER VALLEY--On the slopes of Deer Valley in Utah with fresh powder falling thousands or people are ready for World Cup ski competition nearly a year before the Winter Olympics in Russia.

Matching up the best aerial and mogul athletes, champions like Hannah Kearney are ready to run, "I'm building up to my best skiing and I hope to show it here," said Kearney.

The 2010 Olympic gold medal mogul champion now wears the blue bib of a defending World Cup Champion after 16 straight World Cup wins last season.

The start of this season didn't go as planned. In October the 26 year old crashed on a training run cracking her ribs and causing internal injuries, "it was on a training run in Switzerland and I had to get airlifted off a glacier," said Kearney.

About 3 months later after a lot of work Kearney isn't just back on the snow but back on top winning the Freestyle Cup in Lake Placid two weeks ago and now picking her line for Sochi Russia and the 2014 Olympics, "more speed, better turns and big jumps," said Kearney.

Before that she first has to wrap up that World Cup competition in Deer Valley a place she took gold at in 2009, and 2012, "I have had a lot of success on this course I love it," said Kearney.

You can watch the competition on the networks of NBC.
