DENVER - When you drive by Sports Authority Stadium it's not always easy to see what's happening behind its massive walls. It is currently undergoing its largest upgrade in its 12 year history.

The project cost about $30 million. Plans for the project started last year.

"Not just the audio and visual elements of it, but the $30 million dollars of renovations includes concourse improvements, replacing, and suite level windows. It's really three major projects bundled in to that," Andy Gorchov, General Manager of Sports Authority Stadium, said.

Perhaps the most compelling part of the project is the soon to be new giant LED scoreboard on the field's south end.

"Eventually we will have a video LED board that covers the entire face of it," Gorchov said.

The board will be about 220 feet long and 40 feet high. Once it's complete, it's expected to be the 3rd to 4th largest stadium scoreboard in the United States.

"It's probably three times the size of the video board that was here last time," Gorchov said.

The scoreboard alone cost $9-$10 million.

Aside from the score board, the stadium is also removing all of its old LED ribbon boards and replacing them with better ones.

"We're going to have brand new high definition LED ribbon boards that's going to be installed 100% around the club level façade," Gorchov said.

Viewing suites will get new windows, equipped with 55 inch HDTVs, and the entire stadium will receive hundreds of brand new monitors, doubling its current amount.
