He is one of the state's leading scorers simply because he can score from almost anywhere.

"Luke has the green light pretty much when he crosses half court," D'Evelyn head coach Troy Pachner told 9NEWS.

Luke Stratman can hit from just about anywhere. More than 300 3-pointers in his career, the most ever by a Colorado high school athlete. More than 100 this year, approaching the single season record. It's a shot that he developed growing up.

"Lots of long hours. I just loved having a ball in my hands. I'd always be out shooting and playing," Stratman told 9NEWS.

As good as he is, he not listening to any college basketball coaches. That's because he's already committed to Washington State... to play baseball.

"We always knew it was going to be a very tough decision. Washington State came out and offered me, we went and visited and liked everything about it," said Stratman.

As good as his range is on the court, is it possible that it's better on the field?

"Don't ask the basketball coach that. I think on the basketball court," Pachner said laughing.

"Depends on the season I guess," added Stratman with a smile.

Good point. Different sports, different seasons. Perhaps we'll see a two-sport star at Washington State.

Stratman isn't ruling it out.
