DENVER - Cody Pfau of Grand Valley High School made history on Thursday at the CHSAA State Championship wrestling tournament when she became the first female to win a match in the championship bracket.
Pfau beat Ferdinando Martinez of Fort Lupton 6-5 in the Class 3A 106 pound weight class.
Her win is the first by a girl in the tournament which started in 1936.
Pfau will face Tel Kelley of Alamosa in the quarterfinals on Friday morning.
Thursday consisted of preliminaries and the championship matches will take place on Saturday.
