It's been nearly 30 years since a Denver Public School made it to state.

"Just that feeling of being in the Coliseum, standing on the end line and waiting for your name to be called, I want that so bad," said junior Jessica Jackson.

The Spartans have a chance. Led by DI recruit Jackson and sophomore phenom Celeste James who played on a U.S. National team this summer.

"When we're on our game, I feel like our whole team is on its game," said James.

The two outside hitters are lethal. They love to finish. Now the goal is to put an end to this streak. It's been three decades, but T.J. believes this is the year a D.P.S. school gets to state.

"I think it would be phenomenal because I know D.P.S. would rally behind us and support us and just to be known as that D.P.S. school would be the most amazing accomplishment," James told 9NEWS.

"We believe we can make it," added Jackson.

Making it to state would be historic, winning it even more so. No D.P.S. school has ever done that.
