COLORADO SPRINGS - The cross country state championships were held at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs and among the many great performances today, none topped that of Elise Cranny and Cerake Geberkidane.
Niwot's Elise Cranny won the state championship on a photo finish last year, but this year was a different story. Cranny finished with a time of 18:07.8, beating the next closest runner by 40 seconds, as she set a new course record and won her second straight state title.
In the 2A boys event, Lyons dominated as Joel Such finished third, Marcel Such finished second, and Paul Roberts not only took first, but also set a new course record with a time of 16:19.6.
In 5A, Geberkidane the Denver East senior, won the state title with a time of 15:48.2, which would break the course record that Roberts previously set in 2A, by 31 seconds.
