Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Royals recalled second baseman Johnny
Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha and placed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-
day disabled list Wednesday.
Kansas City's second baseman of the future, Giavotella batted .247 with two
home runs and 21 runs batted in over 46 games in his first stint in the
majors, in 2011.
Giavotella was a second-round pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
Sanchez has been battling left biceps tendinitis in his first year with Kansas
City, and it has impacted his effectiveness. He has pitched to a 6.75 earned
run average and a 1-2 record over six starts this season.
