Bee swarm crashed Rockies/Padres game, players hit the deck

PEORIA, ARIZ. - The March 30 spring training game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres had an unusual disruption.

A whole swarm of them, forcing players to hit the ground.

The bees could be first seen swarming around players at home plate, causing them to at first squat down. Then players across the field lied down to avoid the bees' potential wrath.

The swarm passed quickly, taking only about a couple of minutes for play to resume. Some were relaxing by swarming around the crowd mic.

As far as 9NEWS knows, no one took the opportunity to make an Eddie Izzard reference and said “I’m covered in bees!”

Or to reference The Wicker Man by screaming “No, not the bees!”
