Best friends leading CU's comeback story

Morgan Stanton and Danica Evans have played soccer together since they were 8 years old

The jersey was just wrong.

"Obviously I knew it wasn't the right fit for me at Santa Clara," said University of Colorado senior Morgan Stanton. After 1 semester in California she came home to wear the Buffs black and gold.

"I think it was the best decision I've made," she told 9NEWS.

One that only got better. a couple of years later, fellow Lakewood native Danica Evans also decided to transfer schools and come back to Colorado.

"We've known each other since we were 8 years old, we played club soccer together," Evans said.

The 2 didn't just grow up playing together. They were actually neighbors in Lakewood and that chemistry has helped lead to their success in Boulder.

"I've know her forever," said Stanton. "It's a comfort thing. And it's fun to finish your career with someone you started it with."

There were tough times. A season ago the Buffs finished last in the PAC-12.

"It taught us, last year taught us," said Stanton.

As seniors, Morgan and Danica have helped flip things around. CU finished 2nd in the conference and qualified for the NCAA tournament. They host Oklahoma State on Saturday. What a way to go out.

"We spend like every moment together. It's fun," Evans told 9NEWS. "The team knows if they ask where Morgan is she's probably with me and if they ask where i am I'm probably with her. It's really exciting that I get to play these last 2 years with her."

Maybe it's not the jersey you wear that matters, so much as it is the teammates you share it with.
