Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Preston Medlin scored a team-high 14 points as the
Utah State Aggies used a team-effort to defeat the Idaho State Bengals, 56-48,
in non-conference action at the D.G. Smith Spectrum.
Spencer Butterfield added nine points on 3-of-5 shooting for Utah State (1-0)
while Jarred Shaw posted eight points and nine rebounds. TeNale Roland dished
out a team-best four assists in the winning effort.
For Idaho State (0-1), Melvin Morgan poured in a game-high 19 points. Tomas
Sanchez showed off his versatility by finishing with nine points, seven
assists, and four steals. Andre Hatchett struggled offensively with just one
made field goal on eight attempts, but pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The Aggies took a 30-23 lead into halftime after they shot an even 50 percent
from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Idaho State converted only 39.1
percent of its first half field goal attempts.
The Bengals could not overcome the halftime deficit as they went only 1-of-4
from the charity stripe and 10-of-25 from the floor after the break.
Utah State held a dominant 36-23 edge in the rebounding battle.
