Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - Chris Braswell came off the bench to score 18
points and grab eight rebounds to help lead the Charlotte 49ers to a 73-64 win
over the Texas State Bobcats in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout
at the Sullivan Arena.
Also having a strong game for the 49ers (4-0) was Pierria Henry with 12
points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, while Denzel Ingram and
DeMario Mayfield accounted for 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bobcats (2-2) were paced by Wesley Davis who tallied 15 points, Matt Staff
chipped in 14 and Joel Wright 13 points in the setback.
A tight game throughout, the first half experienced three ties and 13 lead
changes before Charlotte claimed a 29-28 edge at the break. Both teams shot
less than 39 percent from the field in the period.
In the second half a Braswell free throw with 8:34 to play gave Charlotte a
double-digit advantage, but a 12-2 run by the Bobcats pushed them ahead by a
basket with just over five minutes remaining. Unfortunately, from there Texas
State fell silent as the 49ers closed with an 11-0 run of their own.
In a game that was filled with turnovers, Charlotte with 22 and the Bobcats
20, the 49ers managed to pull off the win despite shooting just 13-of-28 at
the free-throw line.
With the win, Charlotte now prepares to take on Oral Roberts in the semifinals
on Friday, while the Bobcats go up against Loyola Marymount.
