Paradise Island, Bahamas (Sports Network) - Chasson Randle scored 21 points and
dished out six assists to lead the Stanford Cardinal as they coasted to a 66-50
victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers in the consolation round of the Battle
4 Atlantic Tournament.
Andy Brown provided a spark off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds for
Stanford (4-2), which will advance to play Minnesota in the fifth place game.
John Gage added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting in the winning effort.
Jake Koch paced the Panthers (3-2) with 12 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the
floor. Marc Sonnen chipped in 10 points for UNI, which will play Memphis for
seventh place next.
Stanford led more most of the first half and held a 24-15 lead with 7:08
remaining before the break. The Panthers then went on a run and Deon Mitchell
made a pair of free throws just before the period ended to send the game into
halftime tied, 30-30. The Cardinal reserves outscored UNI's bench 18-9 in the
opening 20 minutes, but the Panthers kept it close by knocking down 4-of-10
attempts from three-point range.
The Panthers were able to convert only 29.6 percent of their field goals after
the break. Stanford opened up the second half on an 8-0 run and never looked
back.
The Cardinal turned 16 UNI turnovers into 26 points to power their double-digit
win.
