San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - James Kinney produced 26 points and seven
rebounds to guide the San Jose State Spartans to a 76-71 victory over the
Seattle Redhawks in a Western Athletic Conference matchup at The Event Center.
Louis Garrett also had a strong showing as he tallied 21 points on 7-of-11
shooting from the field for San Jose State (8-6, 3-1 WAC), which picked up its
third victory in four outings. Chris Cunningham also made his mark with 15
points.
Chad Rasmussen paced Seattle (5-8, 0-3) by netting 15 points. Louis Green
scored 14 points and needed just one more board to register a double-double,
while Luiz Bidart chipped in 12 points. The Redhawks have lost three in a row
since entering conference play.
The Spartans took a narrow 29-28 edge into the intermission after they shot
42.3 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Seattle made only 32.4
percent of its field goal attempts, but went 6-of-14 from 3-point range in the
first half to stay close.
The Redhawks overcame a nine-point deficit and Bidart sank a free throw to
give them a 55-54 lead with 5:51 left to play, but SJSU answered with an 11-3
run that put it back in front for good. Both sides visited the charity stripe
frequently after the break. The Spartans converted 19-of-24 free throw
attempts and Seattle was not too far behind with a 17-of-23 conversion rate on
its foul shots.
The Redhawks lost despite their 39-35 advantage in the rebounding battle.
