Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Tyler Haws scored a game-high 24 points,
leading five players in double figures, as the BYU Cougars posted an 82-64 win
over the Santa Clara Broncos in a West Coast Conference showdown at the Leavey
Center.
Brock Zylstra added 15 points as he converted 3-of-4 shots behind the 3-point
line for the Cougars (14-4, 4-0 WCC) as they registered their sixth straight
win. Brandon Davies and Matt Carlino both tallied 13 points, the former
clearing eight rebounds and the latter handing out eight assists, while Anson
Winder dropped in 10 points in just 14 minutes off the bench.
The Broncos (12-6, 1-3), losers of three straight and four of the last five,
were paced by Kevin Foster who dropped in 22 points, while Marc Trasolini
recorded a double-double consisting of 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Raymond Cowels contributed 14 points, eight boards and four steals and Evan
Roquemore eight assists, the latter shooting just 1-of-10 from the floor.
BYU began the contest with an impressive 53.1 percent shooting from the floor,
en route to a 41-32 advantage at the break as SCU was limited to 41.4 percent
accuracy.
In the second half the Cougars continued to have the hot hand (54.2 percent)
and also made good on 13-of-18 at the free-throw line in order to cruise to
the 18-point road win.
In addition to being outscored at the charity stripe, 16-7, the Broncos were
also guilty of 15 turnovers.
