Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - A jump shot by Joe McDonald with nine
second remaining was key as the George Washington Colonials snuck by the
Rhode Island Rams, 66-65, in Atlantic 10 Conference action at the Thomas M.
Ryan Center.
McDonald scored 12 points including 2-of-2 from long range for the Colonials
(9-9, 2-2 A-10) victory. Isaiah Armwood scored a team-high 13 points and
pulled down five boards. Kevin Larsen scored 10 points as George Washington
won its second consecutive game.
For the Rams (6-11, 1-3), Xavier Munford recorded a game-high 20 points and
five assists. Nikola Malesevic scored 16 points and Andre Malone Scored 14
points as Rhode Island has now lost three of its last four games.
The first half ended with both teams even at 31-31. The Rams made 10-of-22
from the floor, while the Rams made 11-of-24 from the floor.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor in a tightly contested
second half. Xavier Munford made a layup with 37 seconds left to put the Rams
ahead 65-64 but on the next possession McDonald nailed what turned out to be
the game-winning jump shot with nine seconds remaining.
George Washington controlled the inside with a 34-25 edge in rebounds and a
32-20 advantage on points in the paint.
