Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Joel Smith scored a game-high 19 points as
the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Hofstra Pride, 62-57, in Colonial
Athletic Association play at Mack Sports Complex.
Smith also grabbed five rebounds for the Huskies (15-8, 10-1 CAA) in their
second straight victory. Quincy Ford added 15 points and six boards for
Northeastern.
For the Pride (5-18, 2-8), Stephen Nwaukoni registered his second double-
double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Stevie Mejia added 11
points and Taran Buie contributed 10 points as Hofstra fell lost for the
seventh time in a row.
Despite both teams struggling shooting, Hofstra made two more field goals
attempts en route to a 24-19 advantage at the break.
Northeastern improved its shooting to 50 percent from the floor including 3-
of-7 from beyond the arc, while limiting the hosts to a mere 27.3 percent
success on the perimeter. The Pride were trailing, 60-57, with the ball and
just seconds showing on the clock, but Buie's 3-point attempt was blocked by
Ford, who then sealed the game at the free throw line.
Northeastern survived despite shooting 5-of-22 beyond the arc, and being
dominated on the glass, 40-28.
