Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - Desi Washington scored a game-high 24
points, hitting 4-of-5 shots behind the 3-point line, as the Saint Peter's
Peacocks posted a 72-62 win over the Siena Saints in Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference action at the Yanitelli Center.
Washington, who converted 5-of-7 from the floor for the Peacocks (8-16, 3-11
MAAC), also nailed all 10 of his chances at the free-throw line as the team
snapped a two-game slide. Chris Burke and Darius Conley accounted for 11
points apiece in the triumph.
The Saints were paced by O.D. Anosike who registered yet another double-double
with 18 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, followed by Rakeem Brookins with
15 points, although the latter shot just 4-of-12 from the floor. Also having a
tough time shooting the ball was Evan Hymes as he made only two of his 11
chances on the perimeter in the team's third straight setback.
Siena shot a sizzling 62.5 percent from the floor in the first half, adding a
perfect 6-of-6 at the charity stripe, but the team led by just seven points at
the break, 39-32.
In the second half the Saints fell apart, knocking down a mere 6-of-29 from
the field and 1-of-12 beyond the arc, as they allowed Saint Peter's to bounce
back and claim the win.
With his efforts on the glass this afternoon, Anosike became just the third
player in program history and the ninth MAAC player to register at least 1,000
rebounds in his career.
