Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Khalif Wyatt scored 24 points to lead five
Temple players in double-figures as the Owls defeated the Massachusetts
Minutemen, 83-82, in an Atlantic-10 Conference clash at the Mullins Center.
Wyatt was 6-of-11 from 3-point range for Temple (17-8, 6-5 A-10), which earned
its third win in the last four games. Anthony Lee (14 points, seven rebounds),
Scootie Randall (11 points) and Jake O'Brien (10 points) all added solid
performances while Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson had 11 rebounds, 10 points, and
eight assists.
UMass (16-8, 6-5) was led by Chaz Williams who put together a double-double
consisting of 16 points and 13 assists. Freddie Riley scored 17 points while
Maxie Esho added 11. The Minutemen suffered their second consecutive loss.
The Minutemen led 48-43 at halftime after shooting 50.0 percent from the field
and going 9-of-11 from the free-throw line
In the second half the Owls battled back, knocking down six 3-pointers they
outscored UMass 40-34. After a 3-pointer by Randall with 1:25 left that put
Temple up, 83-79, Riley answered with a triple of his own to cut the deficit
back to a single point. Riley attempted a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left but
it was no good and the Minutemen were unable to get off any more shots before
time expired.
The Owls' last five games have all been decided by one point which is a new
program record.
