Boulder, CO (Sports Network) - A buzzer-beating layup by Evan Gordon in
overtime provided the Arizona State Sun Devils with a 63-62 win over the
Colorado Buffaloes in Pac-12 Conference action at the Coors Events Center.
Jahii Carson recorded a team-high 18 points and four assists for the Sun
Devils (19-7, 8-5 Pac-12). Gordon fniished with 14 points off the bench,
Jordan Bachynski contributed 12 points and three blocks as Arizona State
snapped a two-game losing streak.
For the Buffaloes (17-8, 7-6), Spencer Dinwiddie recorded a game-high 24
points, making a perfect 14-of-14 at the foul line. Xavier Johnson
contributed a double-double with 14 boards and 10 points, Andre Roberson was
two-points shy of a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds. Askia Booker
added 17 points as Colorado had a three-game win streak come to an end.
In the first half ASU made 12-of-21 from the field including three 3-pointers.
Colorado was held to 8-of-21 from the floor as Arizona State took a 27-24
advantage at the break.
In the second half Colorado shot a disappointing 8-of-27 from the floor and 2-
of-10 beyond the arc, but did convert all 12 chances at the free-throw line in
order to hold a late two-point lead. However, Xavier Johnson dunked the ball
with 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 54-54 and send the
meeting into overtime.
Arizona State made 3-of-6 from the floor, including 1-of-2 beyond the arc in
the bonus period. Colorado hit on 4-of-9 from the floor in the extra session,
the most important conversion coming from Gordon with time running out.
