CU jumps into top 10

KUSA – After a stirring win over top 25 Washington State Saturday, CU jumped up three spots in both major national college football polls Sunday from 12th to 9th.

Both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 put the Buffs inside the top 10 teams in the country.

This happened because of losses by teams ahead of CU in the poll going into this week: Louisville, West Virginia and next week’s CU opponent, Utah.

The major Sunday polls both had CU in 12th place going into this week, although the Buffs were ranked 10th in the college football playoff rankings that come out every Tuesday.

When that’s updated on Tuesday the Buffs could also move up a spot to 9th because of #5 Louisville’s loss last Thursday.

At most, CU has three possible games left this season. Here’s what the rest of the year will look like.

On Saturday November 26th the Buffs play Utah in Boulder. If CU wins that game, the Buffs go on to play the winner of the Washington-Washington State game in the Pac 12 Championship on December 2nd at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which was coincidentally the home of the Broncos victory in Super Bowl 50.

If CU loses to Utah, USC will represent the Pac-12 South in the conference championship game.

But if CU makes it to the Pac-12 Championship and wins that game, the team will make its first ever trip to the Rose Bowl on January 2.

It’s technically possible but highly unlikely that CU could jump in to the top 4 of the college playoff ranking which would put it in a two game tournament to win the national championship.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, CU will have its best season since 2001, when the Buffs went 10-3 and played in the Fiesta Bowl.
