DU gymnastics excited to be back in the NCAA national championships

DU Gymnastics headed to Nationals

DENVER - KUSA - It's a good time to be a DU Pioneer.  A hockey national championship and an appearance in the Nationals in gymnastics.

It's been a long time coming.  Nine seasons since DU made it this far, which the Pioneers say makes them appreciate their accomplishments that much more.

There are 17 different varsity sports at the University of Denver, but the Pioneers say they truly are one.  The perfect example of that could be seen at the send off for the gymnastics team on Tuesday night.  Among those in attendance, both head hockey coach Jim Montgomery and Rodney Billups, the head basketball coach.

This is the first time DU had made the NCAA national championships since 2008 and only the 4th time in the programs history.  Only three of the twelve gymnasts are seniors, so the Pioneers should be good for years to come.
