They've done it!
The Colorado Eagles advanced to the Conference Finals Tuesday night after a late goal from defenseman Matt Register in the third period against the Allen Americans during Game 6 of the Mountain Division Finals.
With the game tied 3-3 in the third period, Register side-stepped an Allen defender to roof a goal off a slap shot for the 4-3 lead and game winner with just 1:09 left in regulation time.
Eagles' Johnny Lazo scored his third goal of the playoffs to give his team a 1-0 lead only 1:34 into the game.
A back-and-forth affair, the American's responded less than minute later and the next tally wouldn't happen till midway through the second when Eagles' Shawn St.-Amant netted a goal off a rebound in the low slot for the 2-1 lead.
The two-time, back-to-back defending ECHL Champions weren't going to bow out so easy, they did force a Game 6 after being on the brink of elimination.
They scored two unanswered goals before the end of the second period to gain their first lead of the game (3-2).
Just like the Eagles started, but quicker, Colorado defenseman Mason Geertson would net a goal merely 34 seconds in to third period to tie the game.
But the hero in this wouldn't come till almost the final minute. Register's tally to send the Allen American's packing was, sending the Eagles to the Conference Finals against the Toledo, Walleye.
When the Eagles were matched against the American's it seemed like a tall order; however, they managed to overcome. Now they will face the team with the best record at the end of the season (52-17-2). The Walleye and the Americans were the only two teams that finished ahead of the Eagles in the regular season.
Puck drop between the Eagles and Walleye will be on Friday, May 12 at 5:35 MT at the Huntington Center to Toledo, Ohio.
