Mayor Hancock promised to send Colorado-cut rib-eye steaks to the Baltimore mayor if the Broncos lost. He also said he would do the "Ray Lewis dance."
Unfortunately, Hancock was "taken to the locker room with an injury," according to his press secretary Amber Miller.
Miller said Hancock caught his boot during an event at the National Western Stock Show and severely strained his right quadriceps - preventing him from executing the Lewis dance to the utmost ability.
"He's expected to be on the field in the second half, ready to carry out the game plan and fulfill his end of the wager. The Hancock Team said it will release an update when one becomes available," the press release said.
Miller said the bet is on hold for now.
Later on Tuesday, Miller sent out a clarification note, making sure everyone knew her release was a tongue-and-cheek message regarding his injury.
If the Broncos had won, Baltimore's Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake promised to light up the Washington Monument in blue and orange.
Rawlings would have also sent a shipment of crab cakes from Baltimore to Hancock.
