KUSA - One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetimes. Even though bladder leakage is a common side effect, former Baltimore Raven Tony Siragusa said it's something that men didn't try to combat.
""You know, it's not an easy topic to talk about," former Ravens defensive tackle and current Fox sideline reporter Tony Siragusa said. "Guys just don't go and say 'Hey man, how was the game this weekend? What's going on? Oh, by the way, I have Iight bladder leakage.' Guys just don't work that way.'"
That's why Siragusa - a self proclaimed "straight-shooter" -- agreed to act as the official spokesman for Depends Guards and Shields, a new line of adult diapers for men.
"I've had a lot of friends and family members who have had [prostate cancer], so when Depends came to me told me what they wanted to do...I wanted to know more about it," Siragusa said.
Like Angelina Jolie - who recently made her double mastectomy public - Siragusa said he hopes his celebrity status will raise awareness for a problem that many people avoid talking about.
"Bringing me in, I'm the kinda guy who goes after it, I'm not ashamed to talk about different things and problems, and this is a growing problem in the United States," Siragusa said. "People know me, and watch me on Sunday on Fox doing NFL games, and watch my television show "Mancaves," I'm sort of a guy's guy and I don't feel uncomfortable talking about things that other people might."
