Concluding the 2017 Boys Soccer State Championship tournament, the Broomfield Eagles set a state record for their seventh boys soccer state title after a 1-0 victory against the Denver East Angels.
The game proved from the beginning to be a goaltending and defensive battle.
The lone goal came a little more than midway through the first half after Eagles senior Michael Mooney received a terrific through-ball that he chipped past the goalie and into the back of the open goal.
Following the goal, both goalkeepers made diving saves to keep the score stagnant. Despite chances on both ends of the field, the Eagles remain ahead by one goal to eventually take their third championship in four years.
After falling to Boulder in penalty kicks last season, the victory was especially sweet for the Eagles Seniors.
