LITTLETON - In a matchup between two of the top teams in 5A, Columbine was able to hold off Chatfield and defeat the Chargers 12-6 Wednesday afternoon.
Columbine jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first half after Tommy Gillman blasted a three run shot to right field.
Chatfield slowly climbed back into the game and their first four runs came off three homers by Mason Brown, Jacob Falbo, and Matthew Jarecki to cut the Rebel lead to 6-4 in the fourth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Tyler Mohr provided some cushion for Columbine when he hit a two out grand slam to right field and then Michael Tait followed up right after with a solo home run of his own to give the Rebels a 12-4 lead.
With the win, Columbine improves to 15-1 on the year and will face Standley Lake next on Friday at 1 p.m. and Chatfield, who suffered their first loss of the season, will face Arvada West Saturday at 11 a.m.
