LAKEWOOD - The Pine Creek Eagles will play for the school's third football state championship, after defeating Chatfield 28-14 Saturday afternoon.
The two teams entered the semifinal game with high expectations, after they opened the season against one another back in August. In that game, Chatfield walked away with a decisive 50-39 victory over the Eagles. The Chargers' Dalton Keene led his team to victory, scoring three of the teams four rushing touchdowns. Pine Creek had been waiting all season for a shot at redemption.
Senior quarterback Brock Domann and freshman running back David Moore III were the stars for the team from Colorado Springs. In arguably the biggest play of the game, Domann rushed for a 76-yard touchdown that gave the Eagles a 14-7 heading into half, and the momentum they would need to seal the win.
The Chargers dropped to 11-2 on the season, while Pine Creek improved to 11-2. Pine Creek will play Broomfield for the 4A state title next Saturday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
