The No. 1 ranked Colorado Academy Mustangs shut out the No. 3 ranked Cherry Creek Bruins in a rematch of last yea'rs state championship game.
Every game the Mustangs play holds significance. The program holds a 68-0-5 record for the past four seasons and are four-time state champions. The Bruins became one of the Mustangs' toughest opponents after playing multiple one-goal games with the Mustangs over the past few years.
The two teams were even through the first half this evening, neither team taking the upper hand. Both teams exchanged chances off corners; however, the game remained scoreless with little offensive showing.
In the second half, the Mustangs came out to ready to put the ball on goal. First to score was Colorado Academy senior, Tate Woolley, who pushes in a ball teetering on the goal line after making it past the Bruins goaltender.
Within minutes, CA sophomore Bloem Van den Berg shoots, gets her own rebound, and goes for another try that strikes the back of the goal. Mustangs now up 2-0 midway through the second half.
As time ticks down, CA gives Creek a couple corners but are unable to score. On a counter attack, Mustang's captain, Jill Murphy, runs down the sideline handling the ball then taps it in past Creek for their third goal of the evening.
Colorado Academy remains undefeated and takes down the Bruins 3-0.
CA plays Fossil Ridge next on the road Friday.
