LOVELAND-- There's a new team sitting atop the standings in the 5A Front Range volleyball league.
With a win a big 3-1 win over the Loveland Indians, the Fairview Knights are now tied for first place in their conference along with Fossil Ridge.
However, because Fairview beat the Sabercats earlier in the season, the Knights have the edge with the tiebreaker with just one game left on the schedule.
Early on, it looked like Fairview was going to come into Loveland's gym and complete a decisive sweep.
The Knights won the first set 25-17 thanks to some fantastic plays by Ava Lai, who dominated all match with some great finesse at the net.
But, Loveland responded with a strong start in the second set, as the Indians held on for the 25-21 victory to even up the match.
Even the game winning point of that set was a thriller, as Loveland Senior Sydney Ruff made not one, but two incredible digs that led to her team's 25th point.
The third set was equally close, as both teams traded jabs in what ended up being a 25-20 win for Fairview.
Meredith Pearl of the Knights and Loveland's Ava Jacobson went back and forth with some impressive kills before Fairview eventually pulled away for the victory to go up 2-1.
In the fifth set, Fairview reclaimed its dominance with a convincing 25-14 victory to secure the match and a share of first place in its league.
