BROOMFIELD -- The No. 9 ranked Berthoud Spartans made it past the No. 5 Holy Family Tigers with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night.
The Spartans and the Tigers put on an entertaining game that competitively came down to only a few points each set.
Berthoud took the first set even though throughout the beginning the two teams traded points on great volleys. Spartan's outside hitter, Julie Ward, had an incredible game both offensively and defensively to help the team pull through in close sets.
The second set was largely led by the Spartans until the Tigers forged ahead for a late comeback to tie the game 25-25. Berthoud would however hold on 27-25 to go up two sets to none against their opponent.
Not laying down, in third Holy Family came out with a mission; win three sets and take the game back. The third set belonged to the Tigers taking the set 25-12.
The team would hold onto to their momentum in the beginning of the fourth set, but Berthoud wanted to finish off what they started. The Spartans came back midway through the fourth to take the lead and defeat the Tigers.
Berthoud wins the fourth set and upsets No. 5 Holy Family in an early season match up.
